Shown for the first time (in RHD form) at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1961, this sports car was seen as a key element to Datsun's (now Nissan) prospective success in the vital US market.
In its day it seemed a rather uninteresting (unnecessary?) clone of the MGB. Looking back now, the MGB's classic Pinifarina style has aged better than any of its English contemporaries. The little Datsun 2000 seems to have benefitted by sitting close to what turned out to be the head of its class. Today it has the simple elegance of the MG with just enough Japanese '60's character to feel original. It is funny how some cars improve with age.
Autoart have done a lovely job with this model. The interior looks great; and you can see all that detail well by displaying the car with its top down. You may choose that option by placing the convincing plastic boot on the model (as shown in our photo), or install the 'up position' roof supplied. As usual in the Millenium range there is an accurate engine and well finished trunk interior. The Datsun Fairlady 2000 (item # FAAM77431) can be yours for $128.00.
In the same shipment from Autoart comes a favourite eighties oddball. The Volvo 240 Turbo (item # FAAM88690) that raced in the European Touring Car Championship. With a turbocharger almost as large as its four cylinder engine block, it did blow away its competition. In 1985 it won seven rounds of the fourteen race season, beating Rover and BMW to the over 2 litre title. Available in plain white at $144.00.
